Coffee Shop Heroes

Belmont duo Sam & Dain are as unassuming as they come, mild mannered and never flashy. You might not think of them as musicians at first glance; they are neither the recognizable long haired rockers nor the cowboy-booted country boys. But give Sam a keyboard and Dain a ukulele, and these young men are not only musical, but undeniably charming musicians.  They have an acoustic, quirky sound that grows on you the more you listen.

Sam & Dain started playing together after meeting here at Belmont University; now both in their Junior year they continue to play together. They write all their own music: laid back songs on simple, relatable subjects. The lyrics have a clever edge, and Dain describes their music as “intimate, original, and satiric.” Their melodies tend to be easy going and pared down, a few tracks showcase a fuller sound with strings. Their strongest work, however, is always their least complicated. Sam & Dain released their latest single on December 1st; it is available for download at http://samanddain.bandcamp.com. The single, Back Again, is a cheerful song with a catchy chorus. It’s one of those songs that finds its way into your head and continues to replay all day long. It’s the kind of music you can wind down to, never aggressive and gently happy.

The friends hope to release a full EP by May.  Look for updates on their Facebook (search “Sam & Dain”). Sam & Dain will be playing Wired Coffee Company on January 23rd at 7:00 pm, and they are especially excited about their upcoming performance at Bongo Java February 24th at 9:00 pm. Looking to settle down with some pleasant sounds and a hot drink? Sam & Dain are coffee shop gold. They’d love you to join them!
