About a week ago, I was able to get a sit down with Belmont Student Jake Jorgovan. Jake, along with Kevin Fulda, Lauren Summerford, and Mark Eicher, work together as Rabbit Hole Recording. Rabbit Hole is a company formed and run by Belmont Students, and their goal as a company is to provide premium live audio and video recording for any artist’s concerts, showcases, recitals, and more. Right now, Rabbit Hole is working on all the live recording for a six week concert series located here in Nashville called, “Live on The Green.” More about Live on The Green can be found in the interview below.
BOBBY: So what’s the story on how you guys formed?
JAKE: We formed around this last February, started off as only doing live recording, and eventually got into video recording as well, which seemed to be the obvious next step. I met Kevin, we talked and things started clicking. We started off doing student recitals, and shows around town, and now, we’re on to bigger events and venues.
BOBBY: When it comes to the business, what is it about Rabbit Hole Recording that gives you an edge over your competitors? In other words, what makes you better?
JAKE: I noticed that there really were only one or two other live recording companies in Nashville, and after hearing their work, I wasn’t too impressed. So I thought to myself, I could hit this market running and start doing live recording with much higher quality standards. And then, it made sense to add live video to what we do as well. Really, no one else is really doing that in Nashville.
BOBBY: Concerning the equipment that you guys use, where did you get most of it? It’s impressive to me to see a group of guys that already have everything they possibly need for live video and audio. One would think that all that equipment could get pricy. Where and how were you able to procure most of it?
JAKE: Well, when I was 15 I started working on a home studio, and I slowly but surely started purchasing a microphone here and there, increasing my personal portfolio of mic’s. Today, that’s a lot of what we use at our shows. Extra equipment has been purchased since the forming of our company though. When we decided to also start doing video, we originally began by just borrowing a video camera here and there, from friends and what not. Eventually, we realized that higher quality was needed for the level of work we were getting into, so we were able to get our hands on four HD Video Camera’s (Panasonic HMC 150’s), which was exactly what we needed. The video quality is phenomenal.
BOBBY: Awesome. Onto another subject, “Live on the Green.” What is that all about? And how are you and the rest of your team involved?
JAKE: “Live on The Green” is a free six week concert series, which goes down every Thursday at Public Square Plaza, going till October 8th. Some of the bands that are featured in the concert series include, American Bang, Ten out of Ten, Citizen Cope, The Derek Trucks Band, and many more. If you want to check out what different artists are playing and when, you can head to www.liveonthegreen.net and check it out. It’s an amazing event, and we’re doing all the live recording for it, audio and video. We’re even designing and producing the Television Commercials for the show. Also, we’re working on getting all of the footage and content from the concert series, to be distributed through Comcast OnDemand, once Live on The Green has officially ended. It’s all a huge step in getting Rabbit Hole Recording known. And it’s very exhausting!
BOBBY: I bet it has been. But it’s obvious you guys are really working hard to make a name for yourselves. I’m very impressed with the work you’ve been doing. To be working shows with artists of such high caliber already is a ridiculous accomplishment!
JAKE: Haha thanks. It’s been really exciting for us.
