The Story:
The recent earthquake in Haiti caused a collapse of an orphanage in Port-au-prince, leaving hundreds of children homeless. My dear friend Liz McKie, founder of 501(c)3 non profit, Dove Missions (dovemissions.com) and her team are taking on an incredible responsibility by expanding their mission and offering a home, education, food and health services to these children; however, the mission is quickly being drained of resources and is in immediate need of both funding and supplies.
On February 11, Liz will be in Nashville, TN fundraising for these displaced Haitian orphans. A benefit concert is being hosted at The Listening Room that evening where a roster of popular music artists and songwriters (Jessie Jackson, Tim Nichols, Alyssa Bonagarue and more) will play an acoustic “writer’s round” and guests can participate in a silent auction.
Already, we’re planning on receiving silent auction items from artists like Owl City, Darryl Worley, Danny Gokey, Nashville publishing companies, producers and local businesses.
We’re working with the head of publicity for ‘World Vision’ to put together a radio/television campaign to raise awareness - I’m not sure what will come from this, but I’m really excited! Groups such as ‘147 Million Orphans’, Nashville Lifestyle’s Magazine, Providence Records, and SOLID Nashville are all partnering with us in unique ways to make this event a success.
The money raised will literally go to Haiti the next day to purchase basic things such as food and medical supplies for these orphans.
