MATTHEW:  As winner of the March 24, 2009 ASCAP Writer’s Night you were awarded a spot as a performer at Belmont’s “Best of the Best Showcase”.What was it like being a part of/performing at the “Best of the Best Showcase”?

LINDLEY:  It was without a doubt the highlight of my time at Belmont so far. For one, it was so wonderful to meet the other people performing in the showcase. They were incredible. Larry Gatlin liked my song. That was nuts. I got out of Russian for a day. That was amazing. In all seriousness though, it was just such an honor to play in the showcase and so much fun to have the opportunity to get in front of all those people, and now I’m going to keep working hard to try and get there again.

MATTHEW:  How do you create your set list for each show?Has there ever been a moment of complete improvisation?

LINDLEY:  Making a set list for a show usually goes like this: 1. Throw down some songs I’ve written so they can be heard. 2. Throw down some of my favorite songs by other people. 3. Scratch out half the songs on the list in an attempt to avoid sending the audience home totally depressed. 4. Change the entire list completely once I get on stage, and feel silly for even bothering with making a set list. So yes, a ridiculous amount of improvisation goes on!

MATTHEW:  You recently recorded at Nashville’s legendary RCA Studio B.What was it like to record at a studio with so much history?

LINDLEY:  It was fantastic. In between recording songs I tried my best to soak up the vibes of all of the amazing people that had been there before me. At one point I had this crazy revelation, “Oh my gosh! I could be using the same bathroom that Elvis used!” That was short lived though, since I realized Elvis wouldn’t have used the ladies room. Most of all though, I just felt really lucky. I never thought 3 years ago that I would get to record there. Especially for free. Blew my mind.

MATTHEW:  Is there a new album in the works as a follow-up to Travelogue?

LINDLEY:  I don’t have any set plans for another album yet. At this point I’m going to just keep writing and writing and eventually something collective will come of it. No rush at this point. I do, however, have some brand new recordings of post-Travelogue songs up on MySpace and Last.fm, so it’s out there for those who are interested!
