Monday evening, CT Wyatt and Tim Hunze of Parallel Music poured vision and wisdom into a room full of aspiring industry professionals. Students of the Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business at Belmont University explored the intricacies entailed in developing a publishing company through Wyatt and Hunze’s shared experiences.
CT Wyatt, both a tour and personal manager has worked with acts such as Hank Williams Jr. and Trace Atkins and formerly worked for the Department of Defense producing USO tours in Europe and Asia. Today, Wyatt runs the Nashville office of Parallel Entertainment (Parallel Music’s parent company) and works directly with Tim Hunze in the development Parallel Music, the freshest ’boutique’ publishing company on music row.
Tim Hunze reigns from company Three Stage Music Group where he published multiple hits by artists such as Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney and Toby Keith. In August of 2011 Hunze started Parallel Music Publishing with Wyatt saying “We believe being a boutique publisher is perfect for today’s ever changing environment.”
The fellas from Parallel Music shared advice with students through the expounding of their personal experiences. Wyatt and Hunze emphasized the need for a type A personality in the industry. “Everybody’s got to be a self promoter. Get out there!” says Hunze. “Every morning I walk into the office and think: Who’s wants this song today?” Hunze encourages students to take internships seriously. “Internships were the key to my success, they connected me to the right people.”
In response to question regarding the future of Nashville as a contributor to the entertainment industry Wyatt replies, “Nashville is ‘it’ right now. From New York to LA, people of all genres and trades are moving here.” Henze chimes in “…boundaries are falling down, this is not just a town of hill billy country music, it’s home to all sorts of thriving genres… Nashville is a city of relationships, so get out there and network.”
Wyatt ‘tips his hat’ to the amount of talent that he has seen pumped out of the music business and songwriting program here at Belmont University.
Attending Audio Engineering student, Garrett Witt states “CT provided some very helpful insight into what to look for and how to interact with a tour manager. I’m always impressed with the caliber of industry professionals that Belmont brings in, it’s extremely insightful.”
