BLVD Music Shop, a Belmont University student-run instrument consignment store, will host The Grand Opening Weekend across from Bongo Java. Events include an open house Saturday, August 20 with performances by Bruin Publishing songwriters. A Sunday evening show on August 21 features Sons of Lions, Jordan Hull, and Couched. The weekend festivities conclude on Monday, August 22 with an energetic “Human Zoo Show” with appearances by Evan P. Donohue, Reid Magette, Big Surr, and Diarrhea Planet. Both shows are free and open to the public, with doors opening at 6 pm.
The idea behind BLVD Music Shop is simple: to sell musical instruments on consignment and musical accessories at retail price. However, BLVD goes beyond the role of the conventional music shop. BLVD will post a video all over social media and Craigslist with a local musician demoing every instrument consigned to the store. Musicians can promote their music at the same time that word gets out about new instruments available in the store. Likewise, BLVD will be a space for musicians to jam to their heart’s content. All Grand Opening Weekend visitors are welcome to play and relax with other event attendee. BLVD Music Shop plans on hosting continued in-store shows in order to help serve the thriving local music community.
BLVD Music Shop is the brainchild of Seth Whiting, a senior entrepreneurship major from Portland, Maine. Seth is joined by Eric Guroff, a junior entrepreneurship and music business double major from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
